Before David Q, the doctor used to disprove the existence of ghosts. Once her foster parents told her she was dead inside. Jane says she is not Evie because she looks dead inside. He believes if he can isolate Evie and destroy her, he can cure Jane of her mental illness. When Brian talks to Joseph, Joseph cautions him never to corrupt the experiment. When Brian looks through the slot in the door, he sees Jane is awake, and she invites him inside. She bounced around from foster home to foster home until Joseph met her.
